100 Day Raw Food Challenge

What is no poo?
To go No Poo is to stop using shampoo. Why would you want to do this?

1. Shampoo is expensive.
2. Chemicals in shampoo can irritate and dry out your scalp and hair.
3. Chemicals in shampoo can be hazardous to your health.
4. Your body produces oil to naturally condition your hair and keep it healthy. Using shampoo daily upsets the natural balance and causes you to produce more oil than necessary to compensate.

What you put on your body is as important as what you pot in your body (especially since it's absorbed through your skin!). I used to be poo-free and don't remember how I got back to shampooing again. I've been poo-free for 2 weeks now and I hope to stay this way. Anyone else ever gone poo free or thinking about it?

I've ben just using water (and thorough but gentle scalp scrubbing). My hair feels thick and awesome. It's a bit oily but I know that in another week or so my glands will catch up to the fact that I'm no longer stripping my hair so it doesn't have to overproduce. PS: Aloe is the best hair gel ever.

im very new to this site, but had to check out this discussion.

i like to mix up an avocado, olive oil, coconut oil, and/or other yummy stuff and slather it all over my hair and leave it on for like 10 mins under a cap or hot towel for deep conditioning. it feels great and makes for super soft hair.

also if im at home all day ill soak my dry hair in olive oil and twist it up in a bun (i have long hair) and just let it soak in while i clean or what ever else, ill just leave it in all day and then rinse it out in the shower. so much better than those chemical filled "hot oil" treatment.

Hello all,

I have been poo-free since Tuesday and my hair is really grossly greasy but I actually don't care :-). I just hide it under a head band and since I am not in front of a mirror all day, I can't see it anyway haha.
I've poured some lemon juice over it on Friday after a run and then rinsed with plain water. I will do the same again today but I was wondering if there's a better way to do it? How exactly do you guys use vinegar/lemon juice as "shampoo"?

And about the oil... Doesn't that make the grease even worse? And how can you wash it out with just plain water? I can't quite imagine how that would work but would love to try it! I love coconut oil and I am up for trying almost anything so a detailed description of how to go about it would be awesome :-).

Thanks heaps
Eva

I've been wondering about this. I read in another thread somewhere that someone said that they didn't have body odor or icky bathroom odor after going 100% raw...but what about garlic? a few weeks ago I really went to town on the garlic and when I stepped in the shower the whole bathroom smelled of it!

re: body odors (head and pits...) I've noticed that when I don't eat smelly spices, my sweat doesn't smell. As soon as I take a bit of onion or garlic or ginger or curry, I sweat it out that night and eeeeeeeeeeeeew stinky!

I've been using the crystal spray stuff for deodorant.

Interesting discussion. What I have not seen mentioned is Henna. I use a Henna pack about every 2-3 weeks, on one side for the color and more important my scalp and hair likes it. My hair is fine and it seem the Henna gives it more volume, besides making it shiny. In Europe you can also buy Henna neutral or colorless, I am sure it also excists in the US.

I still use some poo, but only about 1 or twice a week and will try to go without when I am taking a few days off.

=^..^= bless you Jamie!
i have been dancing around the WEN idea for a bit now (saw it in on TV at a friends and then later had no idea how to find it) ... yours was just the information I needed. I have very long, thick wavy-red hair ... and if I don't shampoo with the correct product it goes all strange and flat. I was really worried about what WEN might do. I also worried about the ingredients as I have allergies and an aversion to chemically scented products. Your post sent me straight to Chaz' site and with a bit of clicking I made a decision and bought some. Fingers crossed it smells as great as it sounds! (I hate perfumes but love mint and such ... ) Thank You! --zU

Anybody tried WEN on long hair, long term? How much is really the best to leave in?

For some reason I can't seem to reply to message today...so I am having to post again.

You can buy WEN (NEW backwards) at a few different places including Amazon. However, I might strongly suggest that you visit Chaz's site at www.chazdean.com.
After clicking on products on the left side of the screen you will see different hair types listed, and what products work best for your hair. This is why I suggest his site rather than others due to the fact that you can really research which of his products would suit you. Some people think it is a bit pricey but really it isn't when you consider that #1. It ROCKS and #2. You use so much less than normal shampoos because he promotes the fact that with this product you don't need to "shampoo" daily...more like every 3 days for normal hair. I still only use it once a week, and rinse my hair daily, add maybe one pump to keep my locks tamed and I am out the door. They smell GREAT too. Not like other chemical crap you get on the market. Scents like Fig, Lavendar, Almond Mint...I could go on....yum...love it!
He also has a ton of stars using his products...you might want to check out their testimonials. This may sway some people, or turn some people off...who knows?
