I agree with the organic no-sulfate red wine theory. You can find an inexpensive bottle at Whole Foods. Invite your friends over for drinks, or if you're out just order a glass of wine or a selter water.

That's if you want the healthier option. I myself am a beer girl. I don't have it often, but once and a while it just hits the spot. I can't say I'll never have a beer again.

I also find that organic wine has less after effects that next day for me. I really do love finding wonderful wines and I believe that I will allow myself the occasional indulgence. Really it's these special things in life that make it exciting and tantalizing. I am glad however that I've broken my habit of enjoying a half a bottle of wine every other night. Savoring a really fine bottle is just so much more satisfying than drinking just because it's something to do. And don't think of it as slipping, it's just another part of your journey to YOUR OWN optimal health. Whether you get there today, tomorrow, or 40 years from now it's the journey with it's successes and failures that will shape you most as a person :-)

I can't even remember when I started having wine every night. I knew it wasn't good for me, but five o clock would come around, and I would be thinking about that glass of wine. When I get together with girlfriends for a night out, we do cocktails and/or wine. I really wanted to cut back/quit forever, but the most I went was three weeks! When I went raw, the cravings diminished, and now it is an option, but when I have one glass, I want another, and maybe another. Some days, I will get to bedtime and realize I never even thought about having any. I wonder if eating raw adjusts my body chemistry so I don't crave it so much? Which, if true, means it is healthier to forgo the alcohol.

I love to brew and can't imagine giving up beer. However, I'm not intent on being 100% raw, more to find a level that I'll want to sustain for a long time and so I am watching for what non-raw indulgences will keep me happy and satisfied. Certainly a quality over quantity mindset will help you enjoy it as much as possible, and be sure to constantly re-evaluate what makes you the most content.

I am going to let myself a glass of wine. I am not going to get drunk, and drink tons of vodka and such. I think that people may not agree with me but If you feel like having a drink do so. I think it is better to have a little then to not do what you want then go crazy and binge, as I would.
Just my thought.

This discussion was making me thirsty *sipping a wee glass of wine*

You have nothing to prove to anyone but yourself. Decide what's important to you, find the balance that truly works for you and doesn't leave you feeling like you're missing out on the good things in life yet makes you feel healthy and alive. Then live, laugh, & love!

Excessive drinking kills. Maybe not right away (although it can), but eventually. A drop now and again doesn't do much one way or the other IMHO.

Beer is definitely not raw. It's up to you whether you'd like to be raw all of the time, or have an occasional non-raw day. Try not to get into that perfectionistic all or nothing way of thinking.

Of course if you do quit, your kidneys will thank you :)

Golden Peak has a great organic beer. Frey, Magnificient House, and Beaverhill also have very good organic wines.
