how did you make them? Mine are always tasty (to me at least) I put about half fruit, half greens. I usually put spinach or kale, 2 bananas and berries, a bit of agave syrup or raw honey and some fresh aloe vera leaf (just the gel part) and a bit of water

Google Ode to the Green Smothie for some good recipes.

Better yet, buy the book Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko (I highly, highly reccommend this book). It contains fantastic information about the benefits of green smoothies and an extensive list of recipes. Once you get the hang of it, you'll start coming up with your own favourite conconctions. A new one I recently invented and fell in love with is as follows:

Handful of greens (spinach, kale, beet greens, whatever you've got)
Frozen banana
Frozen pineapple chunks
Heaping scoop of coconut butter
Vanilla hemp milk (or almond milk if you're making your own)
Chia seeds

It tastes like a pina coloda... Can you say, "YUM!"?

Good luck with it..

My kids don't really like the green taste either. I agree if you mix it with half fruit you will not even taste the green. My kids like it with frozen bananas and strawberries, they only complain about the gross color!

This smoothie is sweet and lovely.

The smoothie of love and joy:

3 bananas
A big handfull of strawberries
Almondmilk or water
2 handfulls of spinach
4 dates or 1 tsp raw honey
2 tsp flaxseeds (you kan skip this)

Blend very well and enjoy.

Melodie, I only really like my green smoothies with spinach as the greens. I've tried a few other things, and not had the most pleasant tasting results. And try using a strong tasting fruit until you get used to drinking the green smoothie. I like to use frozen mango and blueberries in mine. And the blueberries make the smoothie purple and not green.

Also, cantaloupe tastes great in a green smoothie. Sometimes I just do spinach and cantaloupe, or just spinach and oranges. If you need it to be a little sweeter, add a date or a little raw honey.

We're going to find you a green smoothie you like before this 100 days is out!

Just add more fruit until you like the taste. I usually do about half and half. Also, try using greens with a mild flavor and tender greens - romaine, spinach, green or red leaf lettuce, butter lettuces, any kind of baby lettuces. I also like to add a handful of sprouts for extra nutrition. If you like spicy, add a jalapeno or serrano - it's really good!

Hi Melodie, yes they can be a little much depending on the greens you put in them. If you use very bitter greens like kale, dandelion, especially it may be hard to palate. I personally favor the bitter greens myself, but to balance out the flavor I do put at least one piece of fruit generally an apple, or pear, as I prefer low-glycemic fruits as opposed to the higher glycemic. Also, to help with the sweetness I use things like Carob Powder, Mesquite Powder, Inulin powder, and Cinnamon. I also will put some dry fruit from time to time in the smoothie when drinking such as Goji berries, Mulberries, etc... I hope this helps.

Namaste

Hi,
This is how I make my green smoothies and juices.Even those in my family who can't seem to get past the color have tried and liked them.
I use a Vita Mix
Water
kale, spinach, or lettuce or any other leafy greens
Celery
Parsley
ginger
1 lime juice or whole if I am making a juice
or 1 lemon juice or a whole lemon
ginger
1 apple or pear or any other fruit for sweetness.
thats it.!
If I make a juice I then pour the smoothie into a nut bag drain the juice into a bowl..all your left with is the pulp..It's alot easier than a juicer. Then I fill my mason jars up..if you cover it leaving little air combined with the lemon it should last for a few hours.
I think the lime really cuts the veggie flavor and it's a great way to integrate the veggies into your diet. Evenually you will need less sweetners and you will CRAVE this life nurturing drink.. I have to have at least one every day. I am addicted.
Play around to your favorites and add.. ....as long as you add lime, lemon or a fruit it will always balance the flavors ''
LOL,Julie

Another thought . . . .

You can also take raw soup recipes to get your greens if the thought/taste of fruit and spinach together grosses you out. Really raw soup and smoothies are the same thing, just a matter of how much water you use and the types of things you mix together! Also, if you have a powerful blender (or if you have a candy thermometer) you can "heat" the soup to around 105 degrees and it will still be enzyme rich. It does not need to be ice cold (although cold is nice when it's hot out).

In other words, it isn't an all or nothing sort of thing.

For example, here is one from the Boutenko's:

Green Spinach Soup

3 Small avocados (or one extra large)
2 Red bell peppers

½ Bunch cilantro

½ Bunch Organic Spinach

2 Small lemons (without seeds)

3 Cups pure water

1 Small jalapeno pepper

½ Teaspoon celtic sea salt (optional)

Put all the ingredients in a Vita-Mix blender and blend well using the tamper.

Once the ingredients are well blended, pour the soup into a large bowl.

Add thinly sliced napa cabbage or red cabbage and dulse leaves or flakes.

Serves 6
