100 Day Raw Food Challenge

Hi Day 3ers:
I love the green lemonade/green smoothie for breakfast. I must admit I hate the clean up! Especially when I am running running off the work for a long day..I have a Jack LaLanne Juicer, it's nice, but does anyone have recommendations for a good juicer with the minimum clean up? I spend a lot of time cleaning the darn thing..and it's kind of a bummer..thanks so much! Cheers to Day 3. Melissa

Hey melissa!

You're not going to like this but I think you already have one of the easier to clean ones!! Lol....I have the much complained about Greenstar - some say its a pain to clean too. I really don't think its all that bad to clean and the great benefit is that it makes a really really good juice that will last up to 3 days in the fridge!!!! So for me if I have to juice 2-3x's/week and spend some time cleaning up, its worth it.

This is exactly why I do smoothies instead of juice. I am a lazy Bunny, and do not like to clean the juicer. When I do juice, I like to juice a GIANT bag of carrots, and then keep the juice in the fridge for a few days and add it to my smoothies.

Thanks. I didn't know that..I thought Champion was time intensive...maybe I have to start saving my money. What do people think about OMEGA JUICERS???

I hear that...raw food challenges the lazy in me. Do you do green smoothies? Do you have a yummy recipe to share?

Hey Melissa,

Firstly, what a great name ;)

I don't know how the Jack LaLanne juicer is built, but, one tip I've learned from my momma is that you can use the little thin baggy that you put your produce in (when you buy it at the store) and line the pulp collector with that bag to catch all the pulp. You'll still have to clean a lil, but at least that part of the juicer is clean.

Hope that helps... a lil

I LOVE my Omega juicer!! It's so fast to clean that I do it before I drink my juice. It literally only takes a minute to 90 seconds to rinse out. The other thing I like about it is that is juices wheat grass too. I just discovered last night that with the solid plate I can put frozen bananas through it and make a raw version of Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream :)

You have to cut the veggies up smaller than with a Jack LaLane or most other centrifugal juices but it's worth it. I get a lot more juice out of the veggies than I did with my old Breville.

This is a great thread, and I am definitely paying attention to people's suggestions!

I have an old juicer that I picked up from a secondhand store for $5. It is called Juice Factory from General Electric. I have no idea how old it is (it looks old), but it works fine and it is super easy to clean. I always clean it before I drink my juice and it takes only a minute or two. I know it doesn't really help answering your question, but if you ever come across an old juicer...then the 'juice factory' is a keeper:)

I have both the Champion (it's 20+ years old and just an amazing machine + super easy and quick to clean) and a Jack LaLanne (brand new, my husband bought it and used it twice - he hated cleaning it that much). I do find the Jack LaLanne takes A LOT longer to clean than the Champion. I use it anyway to save the blade on my Champion (they don't replace parts on my model - it's too old). It has some advantages in that you don't have to cut things so small and I think it makes great juice - but it's one of the worst for cleaning. You have to take the whole thing apart! Many people swear by the Breville brand of juicers - they are relatively inexpensive and easy to clean. I have not read good reviews of the newer Champions and I'm not sure they are still manufactured in the US so I hesitate to offer advice. I know the old ones rock.
