100 Day Raw Food Challenge

I am sure this is a silly question, but here I go :o) I just made nut milk for the first time and I am wondering what to do with the left over nut flesh. I don't want it to go to waste. Can I use it to make my paté? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can make bread or some type of cracker with it, just combine some spices, or sweetness to the mixture depending on what you are going for. Also, you can add some flax, or chia seeds for a better consistency if desired.

It's a great question! I'm always looking for things to do with leftover pulp, both nut and fruit/veg. With food prices so high, I'm sure everybody else making raw food is as well.

My experience so far is only with almonds, and I don't know how it applies to other nuts. That caveat aside, it's super easy to do things with the leftover nut pulp. First, it freezes incredibly well. I've had almond pulp keep fine for up to 6 months. I keep a big airtight container in the freezer and just add pulp to it each time I make nutmilk. I put a piece of masking tape with the date I started the container on it -- that way I know how old the oldest bit'o'pulpy goodness is.

To use, thaw it out and consider it a grainy flour. You can put it wherever a grainy flour-type thing goes in a recipe. I've done a couple and will post them in the recipe section when I get a spare moment (ha! a girl can dream right?).

I've done
*falafel balls (omg, these were sooooo good)
*chocolate cookies (a bit dry, still working on these)
*crumble mix with cinnamon & walnuts for sprinkling over fruit
*bread (still in process)

The sky's the limit - it's a good way to use your imagination and be creative. I'm sure pate would be wonderful! Think of something to use as a binding agent (flax, nutbutter) add some flavorings, some moisture, and voila! You'll have pate.

Please let us know what you come up with!

I save the nut milk pulp in a bowl in the fridge and then add it to the dogs' food every few days - they love it! My husband sometimes sneaks in the stash and adds it into the soil for the porch plants. It may not be using the pulp for other human food, but I figure the dogs and plants should have some raw happiness from time to time :)

Thanks Bitt that recipe is mouth watering!!! I have to try it :o) I do have a dehydrator so I will be making some into flour also to use in future recipes. Once you dehydrate into flour, how long will it last? Can it go rancid like nuts, should it be kept in the fridge?

Laura great tip, I didn't think of freezing it if I had too much, thanks!
I did end up making my paté earlier and it worked fin, I just had to add a bit of water cause it was a bit dry. I also added some of my left over marinara sauce from last night to my paté YUMMY!!!

Jason Janiak good idea I was thinking of making some crackers so this is a great place to use it up.

Kiwi cookies sound like a great idea right now, I am craving sweets. Can`t wait for these sugar withdraw headaches to go away!!! I am afraid that if I make sweets I might just eat them all :o( I need to loose weight so maybe I should stay away from sweets for now? Don't want to gain weight, I see everyone posting about loosing weight so I hope I will suceed in loosing also.

Thursday wow I would of never thought of giving it to the pets or putting it in the garden. I only have a cat so I don't think he will go for it.

I guess I have to get my creative juices flowing and start thinking outside the box lol.

Thanks everyone :o)
