100 Day Raw Food Challenge

So I pulled out my jar of coconut oil tonight and apparently it has been a little too warm in my house because the oil was in liquid form (last time I checked it was a white solid). Is it still ok to use??

Yes! It's perfectly fine. Coconut oil is one of the most stable oils at high temperatures. In fact, anyone who's reading this and is still cooking foods, if you are using an oil you might want to consider switching to coconut oil.

Enjoy it! When I was transitioning and then during my first year raw I loved coconut oil. YUM!

Lots of love to you,

Wendi

I don't know about cooking with it, but I do know that nothing feels quite as wonderful as slathering essential oil infused coconut oil all over your body after a wonderful shower! I absolutely love this stuff as a moisturizer. It's all I use on my hair, face, and body.

Now as for cooking with it, it can't be beat either. And the fact that it melts so easily is another reason why it's good for you. It does not clog your arteries.

Enjoy...in more ways than one!

Raw coconut oil will stay fresh for 18 months. It can go back and forth between liquid and solid without spoiling.

coconut oil's melting point is 78 degrees. below 78, it's a solid white "butter" and is called coconut butter. above 78, it starts to soften and eventually melt completely, at which point it is called coconut "oil." i think it is stable in high temps up to around 190 or so. this solid/liquid aspect of coconut oil is one of the things that makes it so versatile.

All this and it is also a great sunscreen!

It could be ok - you probably have to taste it - unless you have a great sense of smell and can tell if its rancid. It would also depend on how warm it got or what type of light it was exposed to.

On another note, Artisina makes an incredible coconut butter, which is raw and organic, but also flesh and oil combined. The texture doesn't work for a lot of desserts, but its definitely the best testing I've had.

Hello:) It is perfectly fine. As has already been said, it changes between solid and liquid form depending on the temperature. I live in the tropics so my coconut oil is liquid most of the time. (Nevertheless, coconut oil can go rancid like any other oil...and if that is the case the taste can be overpowering).

it's good for something else too ... only this site isn't quite ready for THAT yet! ;p

Oh, and it's really good for those Raw Peanut Butter Cups, and as an oil base for almond butter!

and self-massage (THE best massage oil . . you can even add essential oils to make it smell heavenly)

or if you're lucky enough to have someone else massage you, there's that . . . .

mixed with a little honey and cacao it's an edible syrup that has many uses, some of them quite sensual . . . .

and it's also great for taming the frizzies! Indian women have used it for years to get the slicked back braid look . . . .
