Raw Fu

100 Day Raw Food Challenge

Does anyone have a good place online they buy them? I can buy them at work (I work at a local health food store) and they say they are "Raw" but I know this is normally not the case even with labeling. It seems like if you really want Raw, Organic Nuts & Seeds your going to pay a lot of money. I eat a lot of nuts and seem to function very well on them but - darn! So expensive.

Thanks all

Nora Lenz (www.rawschool.com) is selling truly raw, unpasteurized almonds from a grower she found in CA. Here's the info I got from her:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Unpasteurized certified organic almonds, $10/lb.

This year's harvest, Nonpareil variety (the large, flat, light colored ones), shelled and held back from the processors where they would have been pasteurized. As you may know, almonds may now be labeled "raw" and/or "organic" even if they are pasteurized either thermally (steamed) or chemically (propylene oxide). Only by buying them directly from the grower (or from overseas sources) can we get them truly raw and uncontaminated by chemicals. These almonds are not only unpasteurized, they are certified organic, fresh from the shell and CHEAP! I priced organic almonds yesterday at the co-op at $15.50/lb. And not only are those almonds expensive but they are sold in open, unrefrigerated bins. Nuts require proper storage to not go rancid. With proper storage and temperature (refrigeration or freezing), almonds can remain as good as the day you bought them for a year or more.

The almonds will be harvested the week before Labor Day and will most likely be received in Seattle within a week after that. Shipping anywhere in the U.S. is $10 for orders under 10 pounds and $13 for each 15 pounds on larger orders (over 10 pounds). International shipping is more expensive but not prohibitive, imo; please email me privately for info. To order, email nmlenz@speakeasy.net. I need your name, address, quantity desired and payment method preferred (Paypal or check by mail). Please email me directly with any questions.

That sounds like a really great deal!! We are getting truly raw imported almonds at our store $7.25/lb wholesale so even with the shipping that's a really great deal. I'm betting she's going to be sold out very soon so anyone who wants them should jump on this deal.

Hey runningnaturals....seriously the best nuts I've ever had are at D&S Ranches. The organic walnuts...almost knocked me over. I've never tasted such great walnuts.

Anyway, their product is the best, tastes the best and you can get there by going to http://www.yardsnacker.com and on the left side of my webpage I have an advertisement for them underneath my youtube widget! If you do try them out, let me know what you think.

Hi Laurie
The best raw nuts and other produce I have ever had is from
www.livingtreecommunity.com
the owner Dr Jesse Schwarz is very active in trying to keep almonds raw...plus they ship worlwide which is great as I live in London.
The tahini and raw alive olive oil are superb, and if you want to mix it up a little I can really recommend the sundried tomato and almond pesto-I almost ate the whole jar in one sitting.
It's under the tab 'nut butters'....let me know what you think.
All the best
Richard
