100 Day Raw Food Challenge

After much anticipation, heh, the GREEN-O-METER is now LIVE on Raw Fu! So, each day when you check in to read the forums, add your blog posts, and gossip in chat, make sure you click on the GREEN-O-METER button over to the right, and log how many pounds of greens you've eaten since your last visit to Raw Fu. The GREEN-O-METER will open in a new window or a new tab,so you won't lose your place on Raw Fu.

At this time, the GREEN-O-METER will only take full pounds, so, I guess you will just have to force yourself to get in a full pound before you use the tracker.

I have added in the approximately 5 pounds of greens that I have eaten this week to get us started. So, c'mon! Jump in! Let's see how much green damage we can do during this challenge!

I am working on improving the Green-o-Meter so that you can have your own version to embed in your blog or website to track your personal green intake. That should be finished...well, who knows! :)

For those of us on the metric system and who don't have scale, can anyone estimate a pound of greens in volume? As in how many cups in a pound?
Thanks in advance!

Great green meter! It would be fantastic to be able to watch our own individual amounts too!

I'd look up the conversion charts on google, they are really helpful.

Here is my official list of Greens (I realize some of these aren't leafy green but they are really important to get in there nutritionally). But Bunny, you should tell us what you think.....

Arugula
Asparagus
Basil
Broccoli
Butter lettuce
Cabbage
Celery
Chicory
Cilantro
Collard Green
Cucumber
Dandelion
Lambsquarters
Leaf Lettuce
Leek
Kale
Mint
Parsley
Peas (fresh)
Romaine
Spinach
Sprouts
Swiss Chard
Watercress
Wild Foraged Greens

Do we need to add anything?

There's no scale of 'cups in a pound', because cups and mL (millilitres) are volume measurements, as in how much space something takes up, whereas pounds and kG (kilograms) are weight measurements.

To put this more into scale, a cup packed with kale, which is very dense, will likely weigh more than a cup of sprouts. Similarly, a cup of cucumber will weigh more than a cup of lettuce.

To measure pounds, you'll need to physically weigh your greens, or estimate. A big bunch of kale, from where I buy it, is about half a pound. You can weigh your greens on the scale at the store before you bring them home, and then input how pounds it was once you finish that particular bag of greens, if you don't want to buy a scale if you don't have one :) I absolutely love lots of British chefs like Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver, so pre-Raw I bought a scale for measuring things like flour and sugar and everything else because they like to weigh instead of volume-measure (which for flour is more accurate anywhoo).
