Raw Fu

100 Day Raw Food Challenge

Yesterday I received a brown paper package tied with beet and spinach colored rafia. I was eager to open it, and when I saw that it was Matthew Kenney's new book, Entertaining in the Raw, I immediately dropped everything I was doing and dove in to see what was inside.

Wow. It's seriously a masterpiece. I cannot wait to start trying out some of the recipes in the book, and sharing them with RawFu. There is an apricot cake recipe that might just become an old standard in the Berry household.

Thank you, Matthew. You really are a genius.

Amazon has a really good deal on this hardcover book that is so beautifully art directed, you'll just want to lick the pages. http://www.amazon.com/Entertaining-Raw-Matthew-Kenney/dp/1423602080...

I love to look through raw food cookbooks as a source of inspiration. I don't always use the recipes, since I rarely have all of the ingredients in the house at any given moment, but the pictures, the recipes, the thoughts behind it inspire me to get into the kitchen and to experiment.

WHAT HAVE YOU MADE TODAY?

I agree that raw food cookbooks are super inspiring!! I love looking through Rawvolution and letting it inspire my taste buds. I made a yummy tomato and bell pepper soup today. Apricot cake sounds divine though!! I love raw cake way better than regular cake :)

Yum! I wish I could afford some books right now!! This is like the 10th book I added to my wish list on Amazon!

Tonight I made Rawcos in cabbage leafs. I folded the leaf like a taco shell...yummmy!

:o( it's only available on April 15th in Canada :o(
Can't wait to check it out. The recipe on the cover looks yummy, can you tell us what those pretty little packages are?

Those nummy nums on the cover are Cashew filled dumplings. I have made them before, with great success. They're awesome. Here is a picture of my first attempt at making the recipe!

That's a great idea. Maybe you need to write that section, since I'm only a family of 3, and the only raw one in my household! I bet between you and Sunshine Boatright, that section would rock the Fu!

Yes, this is on my wish list too. Awesome that you got it! Im stearing clear of lots of raw gourmet myself, but am also learning what a raw pantry needs to have on hand for MOST mere mortal (and affordable) recipes, since Im cooking for a big family. Are you going to have a "Family Size Me" section in the Raw Fu mag? We are having raw tostadas for dinner tonight. I had an awesome Mediterranean Wrap (almost raw...except for the chicken, which isnt an issue for me) for lunch.

Bunny - you're so kind. Thank you for your comments about the book and for sharing it with all the wonderful members of Raw Fu. I hope you enjoy it!

Oh how excellent Ms. Bunny! And I'll definitely check the book out. I hear ya and agree about the problem with not having all ingredients in the kitchen when you go to make some recipes. I think I am finally stocked up enough to make many in the raw books I have (I only have two) haha!

Since I joined Rawfu, I have purchased a few books:
Ani's Raw Food Kitchen by Ani Phyo
Raw Food Made Easy by Jennifer Cornbleet
Rawsome by Brigitte Mars
Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko
The Rawfood Detox Diet and Rawfood Life Force Energy by Natalia Rose

Right now I am DYING to make Ani's Donut Holes cuz I'm having mad, crazy cravings for junk food and having these around will be a good idea (like I read here on Rawfu not too long ago). I'm also gonna try making my own hummus, cuz the stuff you buy in the store is damn expensive! Plus, not raw, heh. I love reading these books and I see LOTS of stuff I want to try, but just haven't gotten around to trying very many things. Right now, most of the raw stuff I eat is smoothies, salads, nuts, seeds, and raw fruits and veggies that I just eat by themselves. I really do need to try some recipes! I would love to one day have my family over and prepare a totally raw meal for them. Wonder how my 88 year old Mom would react to that?! tee hee

I received a Barnes & Noble gift card from my fabulous nephew for Christmas. Last Sunday I finally got around to spending it on line. I ordered 2 gluten free cookbooks (I went 100% gf on Jan 5th) along with Cafe Gratitude's I Am Grateful. I CANNOT wait to get MORE BOOKS!

In all honesty, I do not even eat gourmet raw foods. BUT at the same time, one of my FAVORITE things to do is go to a book store or a health food store and look at the raw food books. The pictures are just so amazing! It is truly awesome to me!!! i love RAWvolution but even if i DID eat gourmet, i do not even think i could ever make anything!!!!!! lol!!!! so complicated for my little brain!

Meredith!!! Thank you!!! I TOTALLY forgot I had a gift certificate tucked in a drawer to use someday and have wanted to buy this cookbook ever since he mentioned it....woohoo, have to find that gift certificate! I love Everyday Raw and can honestly say that I have never made anything of Matthew Kenney's that doesn't taste divine :)
