100 Day Raw Food Challenge

Hi everyone,

I recently heard about the raw food diet and it got me interested enough to consider trying it out! I haven't really 'cooked' or prepared food too much for myself on a regular basis, but after seeing how raw food smoothies could be easily made, it's just too simple not to start with that.

Yesterday I tried and orange/asparagus smoothie, and right now I'm currently enjoying a banana/spinach one :) I'll also seek out some raw nuts to snack on, and perhaps experiment with some sprouts very soon and keep building from that.

Thanks!

As I cooked soup for my son & it boiled all over the stove, I remembered one reason why I love raw food prep. :) Smoothies are an easy way to start, especially if you can get creative with them like that - good for you! I'm also very curious about the asparagus-orange combination!

ORANGE ASPARAGUS!! How was that? Man, that was a brave first smoothie. You're already hardcore! :)

Yeah, it was early morning and all I had on hand was asparagus and oranges. It wasn't too bad. Certainly more pulpy than a spinach/banana combo; maybe I just needed to blend it longer. I think I'll stick with the spinach as the main smoothie staple for now though :)

Also picked up some raw nuts today, and tossed a few in some water to see if they'll sprout. It looks like the mung bean, and sunflowers are beginning to grow. So, I'll add these sprouts to the menu shortly.

Yes, raw food prep can be so, so much easier than cooking...although I actually like cooking sometimes. Chop, blend, consume. Or rinse apples, eat apples. Lovely.

Yah, oranges and asparagus is brave! I didn't know the seeds made things horribly bitter the first time I had an orange smoothie. Ugh. I don't think I've made one since, even though I know to de-seed them now.

Our first couple of months going High Raw we couldn't get enough calories. The only way we got through it was to keep tons of fresh celery and carrots around to munch on all day long. After the first 3 months your body slows down and you need less. Don't deny yourself food. Just replace the cooked, canned and processed foods with raw living foods. Nuts, nut butters and avocados help in your smoothies too. It's all transition food, we still incorporate alot of these natural fats for calories being very active people and we have been high raw for 7 months now.

This is awesome! It's been about 4 days now of eating raw foods. I'm feeling great! I've been slowly adding more variety to the platter. Yesterday I made some fresh sesame milk, and put a little raw honey to sweeten it a bit. I also picked up a few avocados to experiment with. I never tried them before, but today I added one to my banana-spinach smoothie, and it made it creamier.

I'm going to stay raw. I never really ate vegetables often, and would usually opt for fast-food or something easy to make.

I might sway a bit from the raw diet next week while in Punta Cana, and possibly this Christmas when eating with my family, but other than that I expect to stay on this for sure. Feel too great not to :)
