I know quinoa does not contain gluten, and I'm pretty sure that buckwheat does not, either. Good luck!

Even if the name of buckwheat might seem confusing the answer is no! it does not contain gluten. Same goes for Quinoa. You have to be careful of cross contamination though. As some mills will process the grains with other grains containing gluten. Even oatmeal does not contain gluten although it is contaminated 95% of the time. I you want to play it on the safe side, always buy in the gluten free section or call the company before consuming

Thanks! I figured since it was in so many raw food recipes that it was unlikely to contain gluten, but there were conflicting viewpoints online.

If quinoa contained gluten, I would be dead by now. The three gluten producing food groups are wheat, barley, and rye. Oats don't officially contain gluten, but are usually contaminated unless you get them from a gluten safe source.

Here is a list of foods with gluten. Don't cry. The only thing you'll need to substitute on a raw food diet is soy sauce with Nama Shoyu (a gluten free brand).

There is a more complete list somewhere, but I'll have to dig for it.

Thanks for the list Bunny. I see that wheat grass is on the list? Seriously? If I want to cut out gluten I have to eliminate wheat grass? I would have never thought of that.

Although I KNOW I am gluten intolerant and all, I saw some sprouted wheat- like serious, proper living sprouts at the grocery store one time and used them in a raw pizza base. I can´t believe I was surprised when I felt really sick.

I don´t have much luck with the sprouted quinoa, but the buckwheat seriously keeps me eating raw food.

You may want to consult around about that. I don't think the green grass has gluten, but the germ and endosperm might. I had the same question with barley grass in a powder somebody gave me, and they confirmed that the green grassy part contained no gluten. Let's check around on the beloved wheatgrass.
