100 Day Raw Food Challenge

object width="425" height="344">
Today our lovely Tuesday vlogger, Lowanna, discusses the importance of caring for our skin. Recently a question was asked here on the forums about what happens to the skin when one loses a lot of weight after going raw. Lowanna covers that subject along with many other great tips for keeping resiliency and youthfulness to your skin.

Do you have any skin care tips or secrets you'd like to share with us below in the comments? I want our RawFu members to be the most glowing among all raw foodists! Tell us about your skin care regimen and HOW ARE YOU DOING ON YOUR DAY 8?

I loved this video by Lou!! The only other thing that I do that was not mentioned is that I've been using unrefined, organic coconut oil on my entire body at night before bedtime. It's all absorbed into my skin by the time I get up in the morning.

I heard that eating a cucumber a day is fantastic for the skin. I agree with Susan. I have kicked all chemicals out of my house. You might want to check http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com It has a list of the chemicals in each item and what is good/not good to wear or use from soaps and toothpaste to lotions and makeup. Sometimes you think you are using something organic and it is still full of cancer causing ingredients. Kritter mentioned coconut oil. I have used it but it drys my skin out so bad. It works great for a lot of people. I have used extra virgin olive oil on my skin as well as hemp oil! I use cocoa butter and shea butter for lotions too.

You are looking GOOD! Wow! Thank you for sharing all your skin help ideas. I have done some of these things before but haven't done much of it for a long time, so it's great to have the reminders! :)

You know I bought a skin brush in november when i visited my sister, during the first challenge. I am going to start doing that tomorrow morning! I also like a salt scrub. Theya re super easy to make:

1/2 cup oil. Sweet almonlm or grapeseed, but really any oil at all.

1 cup sea salt. You can also substitute sugar, which is gentler.

Apply in circles for exfoliation.

I LOVE my dry brush!!! I've been doing this for about 10 months before I get into the shower each day and then follow up by putting on extra virgin coconut oil after getting out of the shower. I set the container into a bowl of very warm water before going into the shower and then it is liquified by the time I get out. I see quite a difference and my hubby LOVES my soft skin too! :-)

I'm inspired. I've been neglecting my skin, being all covered up in layers. I second the clay bath idea because I've been giving them to my daughter as she goes through gluten/dairy detox. She loves to play with a handful in the bath.

Lowanna's skin sets a fine example!

Lou! You look AMAZING!!! Oh my goodness!!! Like, from last week even, something dramatic has happened around your jaw and cheekbones - the video started and I gasped, I couldn't believe how incredible you look! Wow. Just amazing.

For my skin, I do as little as possible. Really. I dry skin brush in the mornings, and then I drink a full liter of water. I get as much sunshine as I can, and I sweat every day. that's my daily routine! I don't even shower every day, as I want to limit my exposure to the chlorine and chemicals in the tap water. Now that it's getting to be summer and I'm going to the natural springs pool for sunshine, I'll start taking spring water "baths" - anybody who lives near a natural spring should take advantage, because that's so good for your skin!

Sometimes I use coconut oil, and sometimes I use a combination of coconut and cacao butter. Sometimes I'll do a raw honey mask. I also love aloe vera - excellent after sunshine! Cucumber pulp - make a refreshing spa drink of cucumber juice, and then put the pulp on as a mask.

My skin care wish list would include a really good filter for my shower, and a house with a bathtub!

Oh! and HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE! Limit fats and salts in your diet, and get LOTS of beauty sleep!!!

Like Farmschooler I have some MSM everyday. I understand that it even comes in lotions, but I take it internally. I MUST start drybrushing. Great video, Lou!

lotions and potions sux. don't use them. use natural oils instead! inspired by this thread, I just got out of the shower and since I had my bottle of oil-pulling sesame oil right there, I decided to put it on my skin while still wet, and ooooh! girl! I am SILKY! too bad my man's in Dallas!

Sesame oil is great for skin (that's all that Neutrogena oil is, just not food grade), as is coconut, olive oil, almond oil, etc.

I have to reiterate what RebeccaJ said, you look absolutely GORGEOUS today! I can't get over how quickly you are changing right before our very eyes!

I have to admit that I don't do a lot for my skin. I would like to get a skin brush and see how it feels. I really hate the feeling of greasy lotion on my skin, but I'm trying to get used to it because the skin on my body tends to be dry. I think skin brushing would help get rid of a lot of that dryness and eliminate the need for lotions and potions. I like the idea of using aloe...I think I might be able to get one to grow here in Cleveland. ;)
