100 Day Raw Food Challenge

Why doesn't conventional medicine embrace healing through diet? Our society is so brainwashed by the big food companies.
I can't believe how much better I feel by eating macro and raw foods.I just completed my cancer treatment and feel amazing. I attribute that to my diet. I am so passionate about teaching other people how they can heal themselves through food.

Congratulations on completing your cancer treatment, Rebecca!

I think there are doctors out there willing to focus on diet an exercise, but probably not enough. Western medicine seems to like quick fixes, so I don't think it's just the doctors' faults. People often don't like to hear things like stop eating hamburgers and walk everyday. I think having doctors see patients healing themselves through lifestyle changes is helpful in changing attitudes.

Congratulations again, Rebecca!

Good job Rebecca.....fire your doctor, and doctor yourself is my motto :)

The answer is very easy. Conventional medicine does not embrace healing through diet/natural foods because:

THERE IS NO PROFIT.

In re to what Nicole said, I agree that Western medicine is focused on quick fixes, but I disagree on the point that "it's not the doctor's faults".

I believe it is their fault to a certain degree. They are in the business for the cha-ching $$$. Every visit you make to them makes them bucks. And every prescription they write adds more $$. So they're not innocent. They know what they're doing. I believe they know nutrition is a huge factor regarding wellbeing. They're not stupid.

I agree with Nicole too on what she said......let us show our "doctors" that we can heal ourselves through whole foods and natural ways, and perhaps it can help change their attitudes. I doubt it though. There's no cash in that.

Keep it up Rebecca...blessings to you.

It's disappointing to think that there is a profit focus, but like Wendy said, there is.

Just to clarify, I didn't say "it's not the doctors' faults," but that I don't think it's JUST their faults: I think a lot of patients don't do all they can for themselves because it involves changes to habit and diet---instead of just taking a pill or having a surgery to fix things.

Then again, maybe some people are willing to make those changes but the doctors don't have good, practical suggestions to give them other than "you need to lose weight" or "exercise."

Rebecca, did your doctors tell you anything about diet/exercise when you were getting treatment? What do they say to you now? I take it they don't want to listen to your assertion that diet played a key role?

Most doctors are so focused on "what pill can I give you to get you out of of here because I have such a backlog of sick people", that they NEVER bother to even ask about your diet.

Congratulations on finishing your cancer treatment, and I'm glad you feel better (and are more educated) than before. That's amazing.

Doctors and dermatologists never once did a food allergy test on me when I had a chronic rash on my legs for 12 years. They just kept applying cream to it. It wasn't until after I started studying nutrition and went raw that I realized the rash was being caused by my being completely allergic to gluten!

I showed the rash on the site, and two other people got tested and found out that's what their chronic rash was, too.

If I had a million dollars, I'd take the next 10 years and go to medical school, and become a good doctor. :)

I've heard numerous times that doctor's have had about 12 hours max of nutritional 'education' in all the years they go to school, & of course that would be of the corrupt 'food pyramid' variety...

...there are numerous Doctor's, though, waking up to the truth...many have found their way into the raw community! Some (like Dr. Oz) will come out some, then sell out along the way, but still, I think it often takes them seeing other medical professionals bucking the system to give them the courage to question it...
...that's why we should share articles written by other doctors with them, to help them evaluate the changes we're going through through the eyes of another professsional...
...they've been taught we think we're experts cuz we LIVE in our bodies, but really know NOTHING compared to them...but when they hear it from 'one of their own' they tend to listen a little closer...

In my experience with doctors, most are just too frazzled to take the time to think in new ways...which is why SHOWING them, by the natural healing of our bodies, is one of the most effective ways to open their eyes & minds...backed up by what other doctors have learned, & there's a much higher likelyhood they'll eventually get it....some of them, anyways...

I took my son to the doctor's office yesterday, and I was pleasantly surprised by the doctor, who asked WHICH essential oil I'd been using that had helped me not be so sick even though I'd been exposed to swine flu. She said that she is always curious about the natural treatments people use because a lot of people in this area use natural products but she wasn't taught much about them in medical school. She was also fine either way if I used Tamiflu or not for my son (suspected swine flu, waiting for test results). Later, she said that things like strep NEED an antibiotic in order to get well (which may be true but there are natural antibiotics like garlic, etc. that would work just as well if not better). It's just what she was taught in medical school.

The paradigm and toolkit they are taught in med school is disease and pharmaceuticals. This suits the pharmaceutical industry just find as it assures massive continued profits.

No one is asking why people are getting all these chronic diseases.

Many patients don't want to change their lifestyles. I have an obese co-worker who admits he used pour bottles of chocolate syrup down his mouth. When I mentioned his diet being a trigger for his diabetes he claimed it was purely hereditary. People often want a pill to cure their ailment.

I really wish people would see that we are what we eat. I feel that the food industry is brainwashing our society and feeding them the processed food drug. Food manufactures hire food scientists to help them figure out how to get people "hooked". This s such a tragedy!

WOW...powerful and the timing is perfect! My mom just came home from another hospital stay & was put on the Am. Heart Assoc. Diet - LOW or no fat, fruits, vegs, whole grains,, etc.
She doesn't get it! She put frozen quiche on her grocery list & didn't even realize that it is full of artificial crap and 30grams of fat! The doctors never once asked about her diet and only gave her the restrictions b/c of high cholesterol, high bp and heart arrythmias (after years of these symptoms!!)
CRAZY.....greed runs the world!

They are actually feeding livestock chicken poop, turning herbivores into carnivores and cannibals all for the sake of cheap meat. It's so disgusting. (I have an article on my blog feed on my page for more info).

I've been into health food before but somehow getting into raw and reading stuff like Michael Pollan has made it come really clear. American food and medicine is so coopted by big business it's sad.
