Raw Fu

100 Day Raw Food Challenge

Now that I'm organizing my kitchen, I am thinking that I am going to start doing a weekly menu plan (which I will share with you, of course!), and I wanted to make some roasted garlic hemp/chia spread.

Do you think I could roast the garlic in the dehydrator and it would still turn soft and get all kinds of roasted garlic mushiness?

I can't imagine what my house will smell like, but I don't imagine the vampires will come around.

Any tips you can think of before I jump in and just start trying to roast it?

Crush it first...(better than using a knife)...
...a few years back it was on the news, in Prevention magazine, etc. that when you crush garlic, you're to leave it exposed to air for at least 15 minutes, czu it GREATLY multiplies the healing benefits of it...they also recommended that you leave most of it raw (to protect the allicin) but to also lightly cook some of it cuz that brings out other healing benefits of it that would otherwise remain trapped within...
Sounds delish, either way, & can't wait for the recipe!
It's so nice of you to not only take the time to share the things you're doing that are making this work for you, but also to HOW you're doing them!

Okay, so I've got two experiments in the dehydrator now. And I found a batch of vanilla macaroons that I made about a month ago still sitting in the dehydrator trays. (Cries) I'll keep checking, and let you know what happens.

Hmmm...when I put my garlic in the dehydrator it dried it out. To roast I have to put it in the oven. But it looks like you have olive oil in there so that will be interesting :)

My house smells divine right now. Like this wonderful Garlic restaurant we used to LOVE in Honolulu.

Interesting, I might try this because I love roasted garlic. Let us know how it turned out. I'm planning what I want to do when I come of my juicefeast. I think meal planning for the week is the way to go. Haven't tried it but think I will. My goal is to always have something soaking, dehydrating, and sprouting at all times.

They both turned out great roasted with oil in the dehydrator. Just an FYI. I did turn my dehydrator all the way up...to around 125 degrees, and let them roast for 8 or more hours. But the garlic got that mushy roasted garlic texture. Some pieces still had a little crunch.

This is what I'm going to do with it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Garlic Spread
1 cup soaked chia seeds
1/2 cup soaked hemp seed
5 cloves roasted garlic (More or less to your liking)
Sea salt and pepper to taste
Oil as needed for consistency

Then I'm going to make the same spread with sundried and roasted tomato. Mmmm

Yummy that sounds delicious. My excalibur guide said 125 is OK on moist food because the actual food temp is lower. Plus garlic fights off viruses - perfect excuse :)
