100 Day Raw Food Challenge

I just started juicing (with my less-than-stellar blender and a nut milk bag) last week. I'm only doing a litre of green juice a day so far, but I am so digging it.

A couple of questions, though, related to the time-consuming part of prepping juice:

1. Making juice the night before would be a bad idea, huh? I feel guilty when I turn on the blender in the early morning when others are still sleeping. I also find that it takes me ages just to get all my food prepped for the day, so any tips on speeding things up would be appreciated. (I'm not buying a juicer for a while yet - I have to figure out how the hell I would store it in my miniature kitchen.)

2. How do you carry your juices around? I generally use mason jars for EVERYTHING in my kitchen, but carrying two jars (at least) in my bag seems like a recipe for disaster, even if they are wrapped in tea towels. (I'm a klutz who takes public transit, y'see.) I'm kind of dreading my commute this morning because I have two half-litre jars with lunch stuff, a giant jar of green juice, and all my gym gear to carry around. Heavy stuff!

Good evening fellow juicers!

Is there a 12 step program for being a mason jar user? For I am one as well. :) I personally haven't found anything better to use myself. Being one who wants to stay away from using plastic products but just the other day I found some drinking bottles (32oz) that are BPA free at Whole Foods. But over all I like the jars. I bought some of those plastic caps that go on top of the jars, drilled a hole that is the exact size of a straw. I then travel with the normal lids on them and when ready to drink, I switch the lids out to the plastic ones with a straw. Works perfect.

I have read mixed reviews about juicing that far out before consumption. My thought is that we do the best that we can. I myself always juice right before drinking it. I personally believe that some nutrients is lost when it sits for to long.

Have a great day!

as we all know, there's no way around prepping our fruits and veggies. have you tried doing the prep work the night before? true, you're not doing the whole task in one session, but breaking up the process into two steps -- 1) prep; and 2) juicing the next morning -- can really take some sweat out of it. the thing becomes two smaller tasks instead of one big one.

about when you juice ... the idea is to have really fresh juice every day. that juice sits around an extra 7 to 10 hours when you jucie the night before. it's really not the best practice.

about those jars... i use the wide-mouth mason jast without problem. i lug 5 to 6 back-and-forth to work each day. check out this an idea someone mentioned for another kind of bottle to use.

then get one of those reuasble totes for win bottles to carry them in.

the prep and juicing are fun for me, it's the cleanup that i'm not thrilled with.
