100 Day Raw Food Challenge

I'd love to hear what other people are doing out there to replace chemically laden beauty products with natural alternatives. Particularly if you make your own.

My cleanser is wonderful. It's just a bottle of distilled water (I usually buy a bottle of 600ml Evian) - I add 5 drops of lavender oil, and 5 drops of Geranium oil. Play around with the quantities, depending on your skin type.

Shake it up and wipe on your face with a cotton pad. I've not used my commercial cleanser for over six months now, AND I use less moisturiser. My cleanser is about £10 ($20) at least 3 or 4 times a year, so it saves me money - packing and chemicals too.

Please let me know your tips, I want to replace as much as I can!

I have a few huge manuals that my old boss gave me when we were both leaving the same company. They are called 'The Complete Guide to Natural Healing' and one of the sections is Natural Beauty. I've only made one of the recipes so far but I love it, it's a facial pack for skin prone to acne breakouts. However, there are recipes for just about anything you can think of and I hope to start making more of these!

My mom uses 100% virgin olive oil for a moisturizer.

This is a great cleanser recipe. I use Nutiva coconut oil for moisturizing my skin (not face) and sometimes a teeny tad in my hair to help with frizzies. I am going to try mixing it with aloe for a facial moisturizer, I heard it works wonders and the two balance out the drying/oily components well.

I use olive oil to hydrate my skin, body face and hair , I usualy do it when my husband is not around:) to keep a clean skin I massage it with half lemons...natural muds are great as masks.! Almond oil is excellent for the skin too.

As a deodorant I use a stone, I have to look at the name in english , it's a light white stone !!!!!!

There is some great stuff in nature and it would be interesting to research ...:)

Peace.

Something I just discovered on another forum and cannot stop raving about is organic jojoba oil. I use it as a moisterizer on my face but I have heard there are many other uses for it. According to wiki it has a very similar chemical structure as the human sebum and aids in healing proces but is also easily absorbed in the skin.

Just my 2 cents

i don't know if i would call them beauty products or kitchen items ... but my favorite things are a honey scrub followed by a liberal coating of unrefined coconut oil ... doing that, i need very little make up or things to cover up my skin ...

the honey scrub is just granulated sugar and honey mixed together ....

and i use the coconut oil straight out of the jar ... head to toe for skin and on the ends of my hair as conditioner ...

oil scrubs are easy to make, too ... with sea salt or kosher salt mixed with olive oil ... (but like nyama said, it can be messy)

i keep a tub of coco butter to use on places like eyes and lips ...

good shampoos are the hardest to find so i'm thinking about trying to make some ... i'm checking out recipes online ... (i just found a recipe for hair gel using the goo from soaking flax seeds) ...

i still use a deodorant stone out of habit, but since becoming vegan i don't really need it ... yeah, that's right ... my pits don't stink lol ...

xoxo

I try to make as many as I can. I started making body butter a few years ago, which is time consuming but not complicated. I also make a scrub that is ground rice, ground oats, sugar and random ground herbs, which is good for everywhere. For the herbs I tend to stick to ground roses and nettle, but you could use whatever doesn't irritate your skin. Lip balm is easy too. I'm still working on replacing commercial shampoo. :-)

I use olive oil to shave my legs. It's lovely and the extra light stuff doesn't make you smell like olives.

Is anyone using baking soda instead of deodorant?
I want to try it, just not on a work day!

Never tried baking soda on my pits but, it makes one heck of a whitening tooth scrub! A couple of times a week I subsitute my toothpaste with a liberal mound of b/s on my brush and it does an amazing polishing job!

My fave natural bath/body procduct would have to be the thai deodorant crystal I've been using them for over a decade now and have never had odor problems!
