This is sooo great! And very important with kids...I think we get their systems out of wack by forcing them to eat when they aren't hungry. Children won't starve themselves. When they get hungry, they will eat what is set before them.... a bit off...

I've heard LEPTIN is a key hormone. Gillian Michaels has a lot of good info in her Master Your Metabolism book. Also eating late at night suppresses the production of Human Growth Hormone, which has something to do with your weight. 30% of my ea...

I'm not sure I even knew what being hungry FELT like until I went raw. And I certainly never thought, "Oh, I'll just grab a banana. That'll take care of it." Everything we see tells us to eat WAY more than we need. But like Lisa's daugther, most ...

This is one of my issues, I eat when it's time to eat whether I'm hungry or not. I'm slowly getting better at it but somedays it's two steps forward three steps back. I just ate a bowl of beans and mushrooms because it's getting late and I thought...

I'll bet she has some amazing stories to tell...there is prosperity in our country but that isn't a guarantee so it's always good to know how to be thrifty...just not to the point where it becomes an obsession I guess...

Great post. Since you mentioned struggling w/weight gain this could be a factor... Don't have any parental conditioning except my grandma told us we were spoiled so I have this paranoia about being viewed as well off or self-indulgent. This trans...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Getting these. In fact, I'm going in on Friday and Saturday. Doing a double just because it has been a while. The first time you go it helps to moisten the concrete of junk and the second time helps to release more out. I try to ...

Hi Jennifer. I've been AWOL from RawFu (and life in general) for several months now, and have just been playing catch-up on the threads.

Your post on Day 7
really resonated with me! Right down to the prayers.

Negative self-talk is the bane of my existence, and I know where most if not all of it came from. That's no mystery.

I've had cause to wonder over the years--after lots of therapy, self-help books and classes, etc--if it's truly possible to shut that voice UP. I call mine The Inner Bitch, by the way.

Anyhow, just wanted to let you know that I can relate.

Hi Jennifer,

I definitely love Cuisinart food processors. I don't sell Kitchen Aid products, so I'm not familiar with their food processors. I'm sure their OK, but Cuisinart is better - they are the standard for food processors, in my experience and opinion. I use one that is 20 years old and still working fabulously! Definitely get at least an 11-cup - you want to make sure you have one that's big enough. I hope that helps and good luck!

Bikram Yoga - 1 Month Results

I started out on this Raw Yoga journey looking to excavate myself into a Raw Hot Yoga Body. So after 1 month here are the results:

1- No Weight Loss, gained about 2 lbs (now 145). I really think this is because of the muscle gain.
2. Stamina Increased. I can ride my stationary bike for 45Min at 9MPH and get my heart rate up. I could never do this before.
3. My Skin is So SOFT! It's incredible what a sweating profusly can do to your skin.
4. My Legs and Abs are… Continue

Excavating Myself

Today feels like Thursday - I hate it when that happens and you find that you have to work your way to the end of the week!

Yesterday's Hot Yoga session was a killer. I felt like I was going to die every minute and I just watched that clock tick by so ever slowly. I have good yoga sessions and bad ones. I guess that's true for everything isnt it? It's how you get through it that really matters most. Hold your head up high, smile, and breathe.

Breathing is an important part of yoga. Only breath… Continue

Mantras to Focus - There is a Hot Yoga Body inside!

Bikram Yoga is hot Yoga. (105 degrees or more)
It's even hotter if you are carrying around 20-25 lbs of extra weight.
It get's even hotter when you refuse to wear little yoga clothes.
It's incredily eye-opening because you have to stare at yourself in the mirror - for the whole 90 minutes.
It's humilating when you compare yourself to the skinny yoga girls.

It is down right sweaty, depressing and can either get the best or the worst of you.

Today, I didn't let it get the worst of me. I know I h… Continue

Day 1 - Hurdles and Guilt

I started out with such great intentions and had such a challenge on my first day. I travel a lot for business and so it is one of my biggest hurdles on this road to whole fu!

I started the day with fruit, brought fruit with me on the plane but of course as soon as I land everyone wants to go get dinner. I usually order my salad (no meat/no cheese) but today I couldn't resist the goat cheese on cracker bread. AND... my mantra for this challenge was No Cheese, No Chips and No Crackers.. Look at… Continue

Raw Percentage - What Matters Most

I like to think of myself is 100% Raw but I would be lying to you and myself. I probably settle in around 90% on most days and 80% twice a week and 70% when I travel for business. So what does this make me? HEALTHY! Damn it who cares about the percentage. It's not a contest. But what is it then? A measurement of success? A barometer of my ability to commit to something 100%? Complete and total control of my appetite and feelings?

So what does it measure? I've been struggling with this all day..… Continue
