100 Day Raw Food Challenge

Sorry, guys, this is no recipe.

While perusing a friend-of-a-friend's blog the other day, I came up against a journal entry about vegetarian haggis.

The author's argument is that the idea of haggis oughta send vegetarians running in the opposite direction. It seems that the author would have less problem with eating a food called Buckwheat with Tasty Spices, but would shake hir head in bewildered dismay at this concept of vegetarian haggis.

When it comes to describing my food to people, I do get into a bit of a semantic quandary, myself. Is this really a taco? What is the essential taco-ness that can't be removed without this becoming nut pate and garnish in a romaine leaf? Names like Nut Pate and Garnish in a Romaine Leaf scare me off. I probably wouldn't even try that recipe. Well, unless i read it and realized, "Hey, i know that food. It's a taco!"

What do you tell someone when they, unsolicited and nosily, ask you what you're eating? Usually it's a semi-stranger who doesn't really want to know what it is; they want to make noises to fill the scary silence. It'd take too long to come out to them as an omnivorous cooked/raw foodie(Lawd, I don't believe I just invented such a stupid label for myself). To say something like "A Taco" (translation: It's ok to have thoughts you don't say) or "A Pizza" (translation: I had been enjoying a big bowl of peace) or "A Salad" (translation: when it gets quiet, do the voices in your head scare you?) is quick and painless.

To say, "It's a bed of relaxed spinach covered in cubes of avocado and a spicy Indian sauce" (translation: do you realy want to know?) gives them no more information than they would have gotten just looking at my plate. It's just a salad, just with the ingredients all mixed up.

What sort of foods do you name like that? Foods you call things that theyr'e not really? And how do you reply on those days when you don't want to educate your SAD friends on the jubject of raw & living foods?
